Actually the really GREAT thing is that we get to follow our passion…to do what we love. When you think how many people are bound to jobs that are just drudgery… with no joy in their days. Granted, I suspect there’s some ‘drudgery’ in what any of us do… there’s always the “scutwork” to be done. But we get to follow our dream, to do what we love, and for so many of us, to be able to help others while we do it.

Who could ask for more?

I like all of your responses. Working in your PJ’s and serving the greater good are both awesome things! Like Donna Maria, I love the freedom and flexibility that comes from being a she-entrepreneur. It’s also very rewarding doing work that you love and sharing that work with others.

Small business ownership is empowering because your business can be whatever you envision. Coming from a nonprofit background, I am constantly looking for ways that my business endeavors can serve the greater good. My involvement in community projects, providing products for charitable auctions, speaking gratis about natural products or stewardship at a social or business club gathering . . . it all brings appreciation for and interest in what Samara Botane does. This is extremely fulfilling, and my business grows every time I put myself out there. I’m currently working with our local high school science department to design an apprenticeship program to help teach aromatic plant cultivation and extraction. Now, that’s reciprocation – I get extra help in the demonstration garden, and I turn young people on to the wonders of aromatic plants! I love it.

How bout being able to work in your jammies if you feel like it? When I am on a roll and the words are flowing… I might call the office at noon and tell ‘em I’m not dressed yet. May have been working from 6:00 am… but I’m not dressed yet.

The freedom and flexibility to just keep doing whatever is working right now, without watching a clock.

(Obviously the Moms with young or school aged children don’t have this freedom!)
