Lisa Kasper of Blue Moon Candles joined the Indie Beauty Network last year. She’s a married mompreneur with 3 children, ages 25, 20 and 7. Lisa tells me that Blue Moon Candles is a family affair. Her husband and sons share samples and brochures with the women they come into contact with at their jobs, and this helps the sales keep rolling in. Lisa’s also expanding into spas and boutiques, mainly in California and Florida. The delicious candle in this video arrived in today’s mail.

T oday, I Tweeted about the couple’s MasterMind Group I attend regularly with my husband. I received some replies and emails from people who asked me to share a little about how our group works. For example, Vera Reed @bodyseasonsings wondered whether we belong to a regional or national couple’s MasterMind group. We do not. I started our group myself because I love my husband, myself and my customers and I want all of us to be successful. Since I enjoy my professional business MasterMind group, I wondered what it would be like to MasterMind with my husband and other like-minded couples who also run a business and a family together like we do. I took 3 specific steps before starting our couples MasterMind group, and I share them with you in case you are interested in starting a group, but don’t know how to start.

If you visited IBN’s flagship website home page this week, or if you are one of the 3,100+ people at our social networking site, then you know about my report that IBN’s first member, Kathleen Lewis of Kathleen Lewis Beauty Worldwide, passed away last week after a brief illness. While I only met Kathleen in person once, the meeting was extraordinary. Over the past decade, I shared many phone calls and emails with her, and I got to know her well as a business woman and professional colleague. Here are some of Kathleen’s products, which arrived today from Rubber Ducky, one of the high end online boutiques that still has some of her goodies in stock.

I love teaching people how to use video and other digital technologies to create relationships and expand their sphere of influence. Every training session is fun and I always learn something new. But this morning’s session was especially entertaining, and I captured it on this video because it was recorded live on Twitcam. Note the “dear-in-the-headlights” look when the video starts. Then note the “shock-and-awe” look when my client realizes that he’s live on Internet TV. And that it actually works.

I thought it was too funny to pass up sharing with you. And I have to thank Dwayne Bond, my pastor, friend and client, for letting me share his shock and awe with you. Oh, and let me apologize in advance if the video skips or automatically loads when you land on this page. As I’ve reported before, Twitcam is great, but it still has a few kinks to work out.
Question: Did this video make you laugh? What funny social media experiences can you share?
As I often do in the early morning hours, today, I updated my Google Reader shared items. In the midst of all of beauty and business feeds, I discovered a life-changer at Chris Brogan’s feed. It’s a 10-minute clip about basketball coach Don Meyer, the recipient of the 2009 Jimmy V award, given in honor of Jim Valvano, the of the North Carolina State basketball coach who died of cancer in 1993. If you feel like the cards are stacked against you, but you are determined to lead your business into the future, then go someplace quiet and watch and learn from Don’s amazing story.

Remember your faith, your family and your friends. Remember that leaders never whine, complain or make excuses. Remember that peace is not the absence of trouble, trials and torment, but calm in the midst of them.
And remember to never ever waste your time at bat.
Question: How do you feel about having invested the last 10 minutes of your life watching this video?
I think not. Perhaps that explains why Mike Michalowicz called his book “The Toilet Paper Entrepeneur.” As a longtime mom and entrepreneur, I know first-hand that you can run out of a lot of things in business, but as long as you have toilet paper, you can at least relieve yourself comfortably, help your kids wipe and you always have something to use to record your plan for getting yourself out of whatever mess you’ve gotten yourself into.
Not only am I an entrepreneur, I’m also a wife and mom of two young children. As a result, I stay stocked up on two things: toilet paper and the energy I need to take care of my family and manage my business. It’s quite a juggling act, but if I ever need tips from other moms in the trenches, I will turn to Mike’s new blog post entitled: “Mom Entrepreneur Success Strategies.” The post summarizes over 100 quick success strategies from other moms, including me. My tip about “balance” is #32, so be sure to scroll down for that. It’s a good read and a great way to meet and connect with other mompreneurs.
Question: What quick tip can you offer? How do you successfully integrate family and business? To get some more tips, you may want to join me on Monday, July 27, for Indie Business Radio with my guest professor and author Diane F. Halpern. We’ll be discussing just this topic!
