Yesterday was another fun FaceBook Friday! If you missed the previous FaceBook Friday about ways to attract people to your Fan Page, you can read it here.) This week’s question was aimed at getting a sense of what small and independent business owners consider when decided whether or not to join a competitor’s FaceBook Page. Turns out, they think about a lot!

Below are a few of the many well articulated thoughts of the people who responded to the question. You can read all of the comments here. As always, IBN members are marked with the Indie leaf, and the links are to their Fan Pages, if I could find them! (If you’re here without a Fan Page link, it’s because I don’t think I’m a fan — you must let me know how to fan you in the comments!) Continue Reading…

Last week, I shared some tips to spruce up your FaceBook Fan Page. Yesterday, I asked people at the Indie Business FaceBook Fan Page to share their Fan Page links, along with their tips and questions about attracting more people to a FaceBook Fan Page. My goal was to crowd source some new ideas so that everyone would have some new things to try to raise awareness of their brands on FaceBook.

By the end of the day, I was even wiping a bit of egg off of my face. (See below for more on that …) Dozens of fun conversations were sparked, and you can see many of them all at this link. Here are 6 ways to attract more people to your FaceBook Fan Page. Continue Reading…

UPDATE: 1/29/10: While this is an informative post, I discovered that it is against FaceBook’s Terms Of Service to have more than one FaceBook account, so I deleted the personal account.
Last September, I shared my new FaceBook social networking strategy, designed to help me stay connected to business colleagues and friends, as well as intimate friends and family members. Because FaceBook presumes that each person will only have one profile page, it can be challenging for small business owners like me to fully portray the numerous aspects of our personalities online. In September, I thought my new strategy would allow me to wear a business hat and a personal hat without compromising either. I was wrong.

So, I’ve adopted a new 3-pronged approach to FaceBook, and this time, it’s one I can work with (at least until FaceBook changes something that forces me back to the drawing board). In order to put this into context, a little of my FaceBook history is in order. Read About My 3-Pronged Approach To FaceBook

Liana Spiegel, an IBN member at our FaceBook Page, asked an interesting question recently. She wondered whether she needs a blog if she already has a FaceBook Page. After all, if she can quickly engage people and generate sales on FaceBook, why invest the time to also maintain a blog? This is a very good question, especially since it was FaceBook and not blog interaction (I have never visited Liana’s blog), that resulted in my purchase of some of her products last week.

FaceBook Question

If a FaceBook Page is fun, efficient and delivers new sales, does a small business owner need to maintain a blog too? Well, it depends on what your goals are. Here are some things to consider. Continue Reading…

UPDATE: 2/15/10: While this is an informative post, I discovered that it is against FaceBook’s Terms Of Service to have more than one FaceBook account, so I deleted the personal account.Earlier this week, I published an article outlining my new social networking strategy. Of course, I continue to receive new requests. This is a good thing, but I cannot accept most of them because they are not from family members and friends. But the action of clicking “ignore” to decline a friend request seems rude and snotty, and I don’t like to do it.

I try my best to maintain relationships and appropriate levels of connection with everyone I meet, so ignoring someone’s virtual handshake does not sit well with me. Luckily, FaceBook knows that not all friend requests can be accepted, so by including a “Send Message” option, we can send a note to a person before declining their invitation. Continue Reading…
