A Welcome Tornado

This Kind of "Weather" Comes But Once a Year

My kids woke me up at 7:22 this morning to announce that Santa had been in our home. My husband and I immediately rushed down the steps to start our Christmas morning. As you can see from this photo of the aftermath, we enjoyed a kind of "welcome tornado" that is allowed in our house only once a year.

Now that the day is coming to a close, I can also feel this fantastic year starting to come to a close. As we move toward 2009, I am so grateful to God for the gift of you, and most especially for the wonderfully creative members of the Indie Beauty Network. I have lots of new and exciting things in store for you, including a new live weekly broadcast especially for women who are managing both home and business. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days. In the meantime, please accept my warm wishes for a fantastic conclusion to this glorious day.

Welcome and Merry Christmas!

You're Always Welcome Here!

This is a picture of my front door. I love it because of the color of the wood and the etched glass. (I can't take credit for it. It was here when we bought it.) I also like it because of how pretty it makes my holiday wreath look. I love welcoming people through my front door during the holidays. There's always something baking this time of year and I simmer cinnamon sticks, cloves, anise and vanilla on the stove top.

If you're ever in the area, during the holidays or otherwise, I would love to welcome you into my home. But for now, a virtual welcome and warm holiday wishes will have to do.

Merry Christmas!

Silent Night, Holy Night

The Holidays Are Here!

My husband took this lovely picture of our foyer tonight, after he and our son finished up an afternoon of decorating. There's lots more work to be done, but I think they are off to a splendid start.

I hope this warms your holidays and helps put you in a festive mood.

I hope you all have a great day today. I included a little message in my Indie Experience newsletter today. If you get a chance, I hope you'll enjoy it.

Happy Indie Business Day!

I know it's Independence Day, and I'm not unpatriotic. However, in the spirit of people who sailed around the world in hopes of discovering new and unchartered territory, not that I agree with everything they did once they got here, I applaud their "indiependence," by naming this day "Indie Business Day."

          Indie_business_day

I encourage everyone to do at least one thing today to declare their indiependence from relying solely on traditional means of employment to secure their well-being, by taking the "I Am Indie Business Pledge."

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have always loved roses. They smell fantastic and each one is so unique. The petals are soft and delicate. I guess it's fitting that something so lovely should only last a few days.

I got some roses today and this makes me very happy. Whether or not you get roses, chocolates, cards, an evening at your favorite restaurant or just some time snuggled up with the one you love, I hope you treasure every moment. Happy Valentine's Day!

Strange, Brave Black Man

He Had A Dream So We Could Have A Chance

What did he see through that window, this strange, brave black man? Smooth southern sun kissed skin, a broad nose and full lips -- all so hated throughout so much of history. Doesn't he know that one person can't change the world?

         Martin

Doesn't he know that he could be killed? Doesn't he care that he'll leave little black children and a black wife with no better chance at life than he has?

Happy Indie Business Day!

Vanessa_happy_4th_4Life, liberty and the pursuit of Indie!

I love living in America because of the opportunity I have been given to pursue the kind of lifestyle that works best for me, my husband and my children. It's not the easiest lifestyle, and it comes with lots of changes and a certain amount of unpredictability. But I enjoy having flexibility and the chance to empower and encourage my children to develop the entrepreneurial mindset they will need to excel in their adult lives.

Happy Indie Business Day!
