Indies in the City: San Francisco

I Love Indies in San Francisco!

We had a fantastic time last night at Indies in the City in Point Richmond, California, about 20 minutes outside of one of my favorite cities: San Francisco. I am here for the next 4 days to share my knowledge and experience at Lori Nova's Business Boot Camp. I am always excited to do that, but especially for this event because Lori's Nova Studio is such a lovely and intimate workshop. While I like sharing in any venue, I really love it when I can be up close and personal with other Indies. Here's a picture of everyone smiling in the midst of the chicha.

Throughout the next four days, along with other experts in various fields of small business success, I'll be addressing Lori's group.

Indies On Capitol Hill

Sweatin' For You In Congress and at the FDA!

I'm excited to be back from our trip to Washington, DC to advocate against the FDA Globalization Act of 2008. I will be reporting all the details to Indie Beauty Network members in a members only conference call tomorrow. (Check your email members!) In the meantime, I just have to share some photos and a little bit about our journey. It all started at 1:00AM Tuesday (yesterday) when my dear youngest brother picked me up from the airport. I arrived at our family home at about 2:00AM and fell asleep almost immediately. When the alarm went off at 5:30AM, it was on. We squeezed in 4 meetings all over town in one day. Here's how we did it.

First Call

I met up with Kayla Fioravanti (see pronunciation lesson below) of Essential Wholesale, Jamila White of j.blossom, Anne-Marie Faiola of Brambleberry and Lela Barker of Bella Lucce at 8:15 at the Food & Drug Administration's Office of Cosmetics & Colors. We huddled in the lobby (there were no chairs) for about an hour rehearsing our presentation. The energy level was high. We were looking our best, even showing off our fabulous shoes. These are Lela's. Note the high heels.

Indies In The City: Columbia, SC

I hosted our second Indies In The City gathering in Columbia, South Carolina last Saturday. Click on the picture to enjoy the video highlights. Marvel at how brave (or something ...) I am to include a picture of me with an attractive exfoliating mask all over my face!

Indies In The City will soon be combined with the Indie Business Breakfast, a jam-packed, 3 hour Indie Business Bonanza where I will unveil my signature Indie Business System and companion book, workbook and audio CDs. This is the system I have used to take a business from nothing to beyond my wildest dreams!

Indies in the City: Columbia, SC

We had so much fun Saturday at Indies in the City, Columbia, South Carolina. Panera Bread offered a wonderful respite from the soaring temperatures. We had plenty of space to take over several tables in the middle of the restaurant!

Here's a picture of everyone smiling in the midst of the chicha. A video is coming soon!

What's Love Got to Do With It?

Only Everything, so There's Indies in the City

Several years ago, science proved what we already knew: functionality can be deadly. Remember what happened when they put a baby monkey in a cage with a fake monkey mommy equipped with a nipple through which the baby could nurse? The baby died. The other baby thrived in a cage with a real monkey mommy, equipped with nipple, hugs, love and warmth. We're no different.

That's why I host Indies in the City. This Saturday, me and my Indie co-host Lela Barker of Bella Lucce (winner of the 2007 Indie Beauty Business of the Year Award) will gather with other Indies for hugs, love and warmth in Columbia, South Carolina. Lela has been a member of IBN since March 2005 and over the years, we have of course connected through blogging, Twitter, email and phone calls. But at the end of the day, there's no substitute for the hugs, love and warmth that accompany the real thing.

I don't want a cold, hard and merely functional business. I want hugs, love and warmth and I get it at Indies in the City. Lela agrees.

Indies In The City: Washington, DC

Since launching the Indie Beauty Network in 2000, I have hosted conferences in New York and Washington, DC. I've been asked to host others, but my husband and I postponed extensive travel until our children were older and more self sufficient. After much prayer and deliberation, we have decided that the time has come to get out a little more.

To kick things off, we hosted our first Indies In The City gathering outside Washington, DC last week! Click on the picture to enjoy the video highlights!
