Never Waste Your Time At Bat

by Donna Maria

As I often do in the early morning hours, today, I updated my Google Reader shared items. In the midst of all of beauty and business feeds, I discovered a life-changer at Chris Brogan’s feed. It’s a 10-minute clip about basketball coach Don Meyer, the recipient of the 2009 Jimmy V award, given in honor of Jim Valvano, the of the North Carolina State basketball coach who died of cancer in 1993. If you feel like the cards are stacked against you, but you are determined to lead your business into the future, then go someplace quiet and watch and learn from Don’s amazing story.

Remember your faith, your family and your friends. Remember that leaders never whine, complain or make excuses. Remember that peace is not the absence of trouble, trials and torment, but calm in the midst of them.

And remember to never ever waste your time at bat.

Question: How do you feel about having invested the last 10 minutes of your life watching this video?

Wow, if I don't whine, complain or make excuses…what will I do with all my time?
Thanks for the post Donna Maria. It is so important to remember that regular people are for more inspirational than the celebrity cult worship that has infiltrated our society.

Spoken like a "true diva," but I know better. You're far too on target to waste much time whining. You make a good point about the celebrity cult worship. I love meeting people who inspire all on their own. No fanfare. No publicists. No spam. Just genuine character that speaks for itself.

Yes, perspective is the main thing I got from this. I have watched it many times since I added it here so I can get some perspective. It's worth the 10 minutes every time I start feeling a bit sorry for myself and want to get out the violins. It's also good to watch because these are the principles I want to instill in my children. There are no excuses. If you are not trying to the best of your ability, you are failing. Sounds harsh (??), but I think it's true.
