Today is Independence Day and, for me, that means fun, family and celebration of the freedom that comes with small business ownership. It also means pondering how challenging it must have been for the people who arrived here from England in search of freedom from the persecution and restrictions that were foisted on them by an unchecked monarchy.
While they didn’t create a perfect union, and they made many poor choices along the way, today, we can still benefit from their pioneering spirit by declaring our own brand of independence — I call it “indiependence.” Indiependence is a state of mind that brings about a state of being.
