When Things Don’t Go As Planned

My children are home from school for spring break this week. Usually, my husband and I plan for school vacations. After all, we have plenty of notice. This spring is different, partly because I am devoting less time to family planning and more time to fitness planning. I will be happy when I establish a new “normal,” but in the meantime, here we are.

We decided that I would take the kids to Chuck E. Cheese this afternoon, while my husband worked on final painting and hanging window treatments in the new Indie Business TV studio. Like any good mompreneur, I took my laptop and wireless card with me, fully expecting to get some work done while the kids played.

Little did I know that Chuck E. had some wireless blockage problems which prevented me from doing anything.

Rather than get all bent out of shape about life giving me lemons (which is whatI felt like doing), I decided to make a little lemonade and share the moment with you, and offer some tips to help you avoid finding yourself in a similar situation.

As I recorded this video, I had no idea what was going on behind me. Humor makes everything better, doesn’t it? Enjoy!

Question: How do you respond when things don’t go as planned?

Well, the accompaniment was really GREAT! And your advice is timely whether you have kids or not. Sometimes things don't go as planned and you have to surrender…

Right — just wave the flag and then sometimes, turn the lights out and just go to bed! “Accompaniment” is a nice way to put it … I'm glad it made you smile.

Just taking my cues from you, girl. Sans the Caribbean cruises of course. Still green on that one. Are you tan too? That will just rub it in. Happy for you to have a break and a good vacay with the fam!

    Donna,

I have learned and sometimes practice that we cannot always control the events, people, etc around us so the unexpected is likely to happen. What we can control is our response to it. Thank you for setting a productive and humorous example for us to follow.

Are there any tools you use to aid in your productivity during trying times? On my phone I keep lists of tweet topics, blog post ideas, quotes and general wisdom that at a minimum I can add to when my schedule is altered.

Glad you found it useful and that it made you smile. I do have some great tools. Here are a few: (1) I always have a business book with me, usually one of my radio show guests, so I can read and prep for an interview wherever I am; (2) I use notes and the microphone on my iPhone to record ideas about new blog posts (sort of like you do), etc.; (3) I carry my video camera everywhere I go so, as you can see here, I can create a blog post on the fly and even in the most trying of situations. I am thinking about getting DragonSpeak so I can actually dictate posts and only have to edit them when I'm done. Hey — this is a good blog post — what tools do I use to be productive. Thanks for that idea!

Love the business book idea. I think you can predict a person's likelyhood of achieving success based on the last 5 books they have read. Your potential must be through the roof.

Glad I could help inspire the next blog post…

I admire their endless support, and endless believing .
If since young age they receive good influence by person they admire, they would have became great people with great vision about work and determination. Even if this person only an entertainer.
I think it's because they believe that hardwork will be payed off. And this belief come from their Idol, Rain. How many entertainers can cast this strong belief in our world today?
